Ø      Collect the fallen leaves from the orchard put it into FYM pit or destroy it by burning.

Ø      Start layout of fields for planting of new orchards. In valley areas system like square or hexagonal can be adopted whereas in steep slopes, planting should be done in the contour system.

Vegetable

·  Sowing of Palak, Radish, Tulnip and Carrot may be completed by end of this month.

·  Transplanting of Cabbage, Cauliflower, may be started.

·  Irrigation in already sawn ginger may be done.

·   Earthing up in early varieties with light irrigation.

Mild Hills Sub Humid

Cereals and Others

ü        Light rain fall is expected in next week.

ü       After sun drying, store the grains at 12 % moisture.

ü        It is time for timely sowing of wheat crop the varieties like HPW-89,147 VL-738 and HS-240, barley HBL-316 and Dolma and oat (Palampur-1).

ü        Against fungal disease, seed treatment with 2.5g bavistin or savin / Kg of seed should be done before sowing.

ü        For the control of weeds in early sown wheat spray Isoproturon@80g in 30-32 litres of water per kanal.

ü        Termite affected plots may be treated with 80 ml chloropyriphos mixed with 1kg of sand and spread over one kanal area of  plot.

ü        Spray glyphosate 1% solutions in the grasslands/pastures having lantana bushes with 2-3 leaves stage.

ü      In the early planted wheat crop where weeds are 2-3 leaves stage, spray isoproturon @ 80 gram per 30-32 litres of water in one kanal for the control of weeds.

Vegetables

Ø       Farmers are advised to treat the soil for cut worm before nursery sowing  of vegetables. Drench the nursery beds with 2.5 ml chlopyriphos per litre solution .

Ø       For the control  of damping off disease in vegetable crop mix thoroughly  Dithane M 45 dust 10-15 g in 1X3metre beds.

Ø       It is optimum time for nursery sowing  of  Raddish ( japani white  and early mino white) , Coriander, cabbage (Snow ball K-1 Palam uphar, golden acre), Knol khol ( White Bina),broccoli(palm kanchan,Palam vichtrta and palam samridhi),parsley, lettuce, fenel and cauliflower (Pride of India ).

Ø       If the nursery of cabbage ,cauliflower and broccoli is at 4-6 weeks stage can be planted in the fields directly.

Ø       It is optimum time for nursery sowing of onion.

Ø       For taking seed crop of onion plant bulbs at 45*45 cm apart directly in filed.

Ø       It is also time for sowing of peas. Garlic can also be planted in the field. Apply irrigation to crops.

Floriculture

v      It is optimum time for raising the nursery of winter flowers like Calendula, arctotis.dog flowers, sweet pea, dianthus, petunia, stock and flox in fields.

v      When the seasonal flowers attain height of 10-15 cm then do pinching of terminal growing buds 1-2cm so as to encourage the side branching for profuse flowering.

v      The mite affected plants of carnation may be cut 3-5 cm above the ground level.

v       For the control of blue beetle in roses and balsam, spray endosulphon @0.1% or cypermythrin @0.05%.

v       In seed crop of marigold rouging is required to maintain the health of flowers.

Horticultural Crops/ Tea

Horticultural Crops:

Ø       In peach gum is coming out from tree trunk, for control Bordeaux paint may be applied in the affected area.

Ø       Prepare the land for strawberry plantation .

Tea:

·         Training and pruning work can be started in the tea.

Animals

ü       Feed pregnant and lactating cows and buffalos with balance feed including mineral mixture.  For the control of ticks and mites in animals spray butox @2ml per litre on animal’s body /skin and @1-3 ml/l of water in cowsheds.

ü       Also keep the cowshed clean and donot allow the water to stagnate in the cow shed.

ü       For milch animals follow schedule of 1 kg feed+50g mineral mixtures per 2 ltres of milk. This schedule will maintain the reproductive ability of animals.

ü       For control do the deworming of animals.

ü       It has been observed that dairy animals are deficient in minerals elements which are the sole reason of repeat breeding and other gyne related diseases in animals.

ü       So ensure to give 50 g mineral mixture to animals daily. Ensure cleanliness in cows having advanced pregnancy to avoid mastitis.

ü       Protect the animals from cold as temperature is expected to fall in next week.

Poultry

·         Replace the poultry houses with fresh litter to avoid wetting and keep the houses clean.

·          Normal feeding schedule should be continued and add mineral in the diet if stress is seen.

·          Climate is congenial for attack of Diarhiria and cocksedia so, Consult the nearby veterinarian.

·        For new lot of layers chicks follow recommended schedule of vaccination for IBD and Ranikhet disease because weather is conducive for the spread of these disease

Mushroom Cultivation

*       For harvesting a good crop fill the 20kg bag with compost and mix the span in it.

*       Maintain room tempearture18-22 o C and relative humidity around 85% for successful cultivation.

*       For Oyster mushroom crop 16-22 o C temperature may be maintained.

Honeybees

v                         The temperature has fallen and expected to fall further, so give the winter packing immediately to colonies. Check the colonies for nector and Give artificial food to honey bees as there is scarcity of flowers during these days.

v                         And keep colonies in sun on clear day.

Fisheries

·         If color of the tank water turns red then stop adding oilcake and add only wheat bran.

·          Also avoid FYM in the fish tank.

·         Follow the normal schedule of feeding.

·          Splash the water with stick from outside so that oxygen level may increased into water.

·          Dissolved oxygen level should be monitored regularly and keep the level above 4mg per litre.

Apple & Others

       Apple:

Apple is in last stage of peaking.

1.      For the leaf shedding in Scab affected apple plants spray 10 kg Urea per 200 liters of water. For the plantation of new orchards after selection of the site do layout for digging the pits within time.

2.      Where the fruit harvesting finished for the control of Canker and other diseases spray Blitox @ 600 gm per 200 liters of water.

3.      After fruit peaking within 15-20 days do necessarily spray of Copper Oxychloride @ 600 gm per 200 liters of water.

4.      During peaking mark the plant affected by Sanjose Scale and after peaking sprays those plants with Chlorpyriphos @ 400 ml per 200 liters of water.

5.      Where there was heavy crop of apple, after fruit harvesting within ten day spray 2kg Urea + 600 gm Copper Oxychloride per 200 liters of water. This spay will control the canker and make the plant strong.

6.      To control the Wooly Aphid spray EKTARA @ 200 gm per 200 liters of water.

v      For the control of rats use carbofuron granules(25g/tree) near trunk before the snow fall. Prepare basins and use SSP and MOP in basins as per age of plants (220gSSP and 115gMOP for one year plant and in multiple of age thereafter.

v      New pits for the plantations can be done.

v     New planting of Seabuckthorn can be done .For plants contact KVK,Kukumseri.

Animals

*       Decrease in temperature is their don’t allow to graze after 2-3PM.
